Summer grapefruit cocktails with a touch of blueberry create a perfect, refreshing drink. I wanted to kick off my first cocktail recipe with one of my favorite go-to drink recipes from this past summer. This recipe is special to me because it pushed me to get this blog started! I wanted to find a way to really combine my passions for drink, food, and travel all in to one space. My goal is for people to come here for thoughtful recipes that spark curiosity and inspiration. I came up with the idea to create recipes that are inspired by places I’ve visited or people I’ve met.
The inspiration behind this recipe is the labyrinth city of Venice, Italy! This picture was taken on a romantic overpass with a perfect view of the rust colored buildings and loving young couple. It just seemed like a perfect picture. To me, this recipe encompasses the vibrant feeling and sweet sea breeze that surrounds you in the city of Venice. I hope you enjoy this recipe, if you want to find out more about my personal travel tips and tricks check out this section of my blog!

Recipe
Ingredients: for 2 servings
1 Grapefruit
Club Soda, Tonic Water, or Seltzer water
4 oz. Vodka
Blueberry Syrup
1 Cup Blueberries
1 Cup Granulated Sugar
Instructions
- Add your washed blueberries and sugar to a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer. A deep blue syrup is created when the sugar is melted. The longer the sugar stays on the heat, the thicker the syrup will be. My mixture took around 6 minutes to reach my desired consistency.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes. Strain the syrup into a separate container. Keep the leftover blueberries for garnish if you would like!
- Slice your grapefruit into one inch chunks. Fill a glass with about 1/3 cup of grapefruit. Use a muddler to release the juice and oils from the grapefruit.
- Fill the same glass with ice. Pour 2 oz. of vodka over the ice and top the glass off with club soda. Stir mixture.
- Pour 1 oz. of the blueberry syrup over the drink. Garnish with grapefruit wedge, sugar rim, and leftover blueberries if desired.
